The Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham's granting programs support, nurture and expand arts and culture in the central Alabama region by providing funding to qualified non-profit organizations and individual artists.
The Kresge Foundation of Troy, Michigan, is piloting a community arts and civic engagement project in Birmingham, Detroit, Baltimore, St. Louis and Tucson, that encourages residents to use art and culture as a tool to address community issues. Kresge has enlisted the Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham to administer the program entitled Kresge Arts in Birmingham.
The project is designed to test Kresge’s belief that grassroots arts and cultural projects can be an effective tool to unite communities, address pressing social issues, and nourish our spirits in difficult times. Individuals and groups are encouraged to apply, including all types of arts and cultural professionals, neighborhood associations, service agencies, community development groups, and arts and cultural organizations, among others. Over the next two years, Kresge is funding grants ranging from $2,500- $10,000 for community arts projects that strive to address Birmingham’s pressing issues as determined by its citizens.

The Cultural Alliance believes having a strong base of artists living and working in our community enriches the lives of all citizens and fuels a dynamic economy. Grants to Individual Artists (GIA) support committed, accomplished artists by financially supporting the advancement of their careers as professional artists.
With regret, the GIA program is suspended for 2010. The Cultural Alliance remains committed to supporting, nurturing and promoting working artists and will resume the GIA program as soon as funds are available.

In December 2004, the Jefferson County Commission established the Jefferson County Community Arts Fund (JCCAF) to be administered by the Cultural Alliance using a process that incorporated national best practices in distributing public funds to arts and cultural organizations.
Over three years, 227 funding awards totaling $14,279,185 were made to 75 Jefferson County-based organizations that integrated arts and cultural activities into the lives of all County residents.
All JCCAF funds have been awarded. The FY08 budget approved by the Jefferson County Commission did not include any funds for JCCAF.
